How the numbers are worked out

    • Coordinates: distances are measured square to the front wall, to each speaker's front face, and to the cabinet centre from the side walls; heights are to the tweeter centre; all distances to the seat are 3D, to ear height.
    • Front L/R: stereo layouts aim for ±30° (equilateral triangle, ITU-R BS.775); surround layouts check Dolby's 22–30°. The seat defaults to 38% of the room depth from the back wall, or sits where you place your sofa or chair.
    • Surrounds and wides: Dolby home-theater angles: 5.x sides 100–120°, 7.x sides 90–110°, rears 135–150°, front wides about 60°; dipoles at 90°.
    • Atmos heights: Dolby elevations from the seat: top front 30–55°, top middle 65–100°, top rear 125–150°, solved against your actual ceiling height and slope.
    • Aim: on-axis error is the angle between where the speaker points (toe-in, tilt) and the line to your ears.
    • Bass: axial modes f = n·1130/(2·L), Schroeder frequency 2000·√(0.4/V), front-wall cancellation f = 1130/(4·d); the wave simulations solve the acoustic wave equation (2D FDTD) at ear height.
    • Reflections: mirror-image method for side walls and ceiling; delay is the extra path length ÷ 1130 ft/s.
